Job Opening for Philosopher or Historian

The History and Philosophy Division of the Sun Yat-Sen Institute for Social Sciences and Philosophy (ISSP), Academia Sinica, has a tenure-track research position available, rank open. Fields of study are limited as follows: (1) philosophy: ethics, Western political philosophy, and the history of Western political thought; (2) history: maritime history. This Institute is multidisciplinary, and thus individuals with interdisciplinary research orientations are encouraged to apply. Excellent research support is provided by ISSP, and faculty members are required to conduct academic research and publish in professional journals. There is no teaching requirement for the position.

Applicant needs to have a Ph.D. in philosophy or in history, and must be able to speak Mandarin Chinese fluently. Ph.D. candidate who is expected to complete his or her degree in the near future is also welcome to apply. The deadline for application is September 30, 2002.
